Moore Named Inaugural NEC Player of the Year

Moon Township, Pa. - May 20, 2010 - The Robert Morris University men's lacrosse team was awarded with eight Northeast Conference postseason honors, announced Thursday by the league office. Junior Attacker Trevor Moore (Port Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) was honored with the NEC's inaugural Player of the Year award and was also named to the All-NEC First Team.

Junior Attacker Corbyn Tao-Brambleby (Coquitlam, B.C. / Western Reserve Academy) and sophomore middie Kiel Matisz (Stoney Creek, Ontario / Saltfleet) joined Moore on the All-NEC First Team. Senior defender Jordon Sealock (Airdrie, Alberta / George MacDougal), redshirt junior attacker Patrick Smith (Westminster, Md. / Westminster) and sophomore midfielder Kyle Buchanan (Nepean, Ontario / John McCrae) were named to the All-NEC Second Team and redshirt sophomore Kevin Brownell (Burlington, Ontario / Central) midfielder represented the Colonials on the NEC's All-Rookie Team.

Moore led a team that was the No. 1 scoring offense in the nation with 15.33 goals per game, 8.87 assists per game and 24.2 points per game. This was due in large part to Moore's league leading 4.0 points per game, which ranked 10th in the NCAA. He helped guide the Colonials to their first-ever national ranking (19th) and he grabbed the league's first ever honor as he was named NEC Player of the Month back in March.  He has totaled 35 goals throughout the year, which ranks third in the league and has also contributed 25 helpers, which ranks second in the league.  He is currently on a 30-game scoring streak that dates back to February 14, 2009 and will continue into the 2011 season. His 60 points and 25 assists both broke RMU single-season records and he now holds the RMU Career Record with 134 points and 50 assists.

Tao-Brambleby ranked second in the conference and eighth in the nation with 2.73 goals per game, totaling 41 scores on the year. He also contributed 12 assists and was tied for first on the team with two game-winners. Six of his goals were scored man-up, which led the team and ranked fourth in the NEC. In the national rankings, he was first with a .532 shot percentage and 24th with 3.40 points per game. On April 19 he was named NEC Player of the Week after scoring five goals and one assist against No. 3 North Carolina. His 41 goals broke an RMU singles season record and he holds the RMU career record for goals per game (1.98) and is tied for first with 91 goals.

This marks Matisz's second consecutive post season honor as he was a member of the All-CAA Rookie Team last year. He finished the year third on the squad with 46 points with 28 goals and 18 assists and ranked tied for sixth in the NEC for goals per game (1.93) and held the sixth spot outright for assists per game (1.20). He finished tied for fifth with 3.13 points per game.

Sealock led the Colonial's defensive unit with a team leading 23 caused turnovers and 33 ground balls. He ranked 35th in the nation with 1.53 caused turnovers per game.  Offensively, he added three assists to the Colonial scoreboard.

Smith finished the year with 30 goals and 15 assists for 45 points. He ranked tied for sixth in the league with 1.93 goals per game, was tied for seventh with 1.00 assist per game and was seventh with 2.93 points per game. He also contributed 27 ground balls. He was named NEC Player of the Week on March 29 after scoring four goals and one assist in RMU's win over Jacksonville.

Buchanan contributed nine goals and was second on the squad with 21 assists. He was also second on the team with 50 ground balls and added eight caused turnovers. He is listed 35th in the nation with 1.36 helpers per game.

Brownell finished the year with 16 goals and 11 assists for 27 points. He tallied one game winning goal for the Colonials and registered nine ground balls and one caused turnover.

Robert Morris finished the year with its best season to date at 10-5. The Colonials will embark on their first official season as part of the Northeast Conference in 2011.
