Moon Township, Pa. - Senior tight end Shadrae King (McKeesport, Pa. / McKeesport) of the Robert Morris University football team earned a pair of weekly honors Monday, being named the Northeast Conference Offensive Player of the Week as well as the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS) National Tight End of the Week by the College Football Performance Awards.
King was honored for his role in a 23-20 victory at Monmouth (10/1) that helped the Colonials post their first victory of the 2011 campaign and snap a five-game losing streak dating back to the 2010 season.
Against the Hawks, King tied a career high with nine receptions, compiling 104 yards receiving and a pair of touchdowns. He hauled in a 19-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jeff Sinclair (Natrona Heights, Pa. / Highlands) during RMU's opening possession that gave the Colonials an early 7-0 lead.
In the fourth quarter, Sinclair and King hooked up for the second time on the afternoon, which proved to be the game-winning score. King caught a 21-yard touchdown pass from Sinclair with 5:15 to play that gave Robert Morris a 23-20 lead en route to the victory.
Thanks to his performance at Monmouth, King broke a pair of RMU records, catching a pass for the 23rd straight game dating back to the 2009 season while also becoming RMU's all-time leading receiver.
King owns 115 career receptions, breaking the mark of 112 that was established by former wide receiver Tyjuan Massey from 2002 to 2005. His streak of 23 straight games with at least one reception broke the mark of former wide receiver Opio Gary (1998-2001), who closed out his career with at least one catch in his final 22 contests.
Through four games of the 2011 season King leads Robert Morris in receptions (21), receiving yards (199) and touchdown catches (2). His par of touchdown catches against the Hawks pushed his career total in the category to 18, just four shy of breaking Massey's career record of 21. King also ranks fifth all-time at RMU in career receiving yards (1,373).
Robert Morris, winners of 13 of its last 14 games against league opponents, returns home to Joe Walton Stadium Saturday, Oct. 8, with a 7:00 p.m. kickoff against in-state rival Saint Francis. The contest marks the first home night game in the program's 18-year history and is part of the University's Homecoming festivities.
