Colonials Take Seventh at NEC Championships

Pittsburgh, Pa. ? The Robert Morris University women's track and field team finished the 2008 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships in seventh place Sunday afternoon at the RMU Island Sports Center in Pittsburgh, Pa.

The Colonials ended the event with 77.50 team points while Sacred Heart finished in first place with 144.50. Monmouth took second place with 129.50 points and Saint Francis (Pa.) followed in third with 124.

Senior Jordhanna White (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) led the Colonials during day two's action, joining teammate sophomore Melitta Brown (York, Ontario / Sacred Heart) as individual champions.

White put on an exceptional performance in the 100-meter hurdles, finishing the event in first place with an ECAC qualifying mark of 14.22. Crossing the tape behind White, seniors Corina Campbell (Smithburg, Md. / Smithburg) and Brittany DeMudd (Warrensville Heights, Ohio / St. Peter Chanel) placed third and fourth with times of 14.64 and 14.83.

Brown also added some additional hardware to go along with her long jump gold, taking bronze in the triple jump thanks to an ECAC leap of 11.90m.

Sophomore Ashley Turici (Zelienople, Pa. / Seneca Valley) rounded out the Colonial medalist in the javelin, earning silver after an ECAC toss of 42.94m.
