Colonials Finish Season at NCAA East Regional

Tallahassee, Fla. ? Qualifying members of the Robert Morris University men's track and field team competed this weekend at the 2008 NCAA East Regional Championship, held at the Mike Long Track Complex on the campus of Florida State University in Tallahassee, Fla.

Seniors Jeff Witmyer (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) and Phillips Thompson (New Castle, Pa. / Shenango) and sophomores Duri Greene (Wyndmoor, Pa. / Springfield) and Nasim Siddeeq (New Hampton, N.Y. / Goshen Central) took on qualifiers from all over the east region in hopes of obtaining one of the five event bids to the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.

Witmyer kicked off the competition on Friday in the high jump. The reigning NEC and IC4A champion finished in a seven-way tie for 10th place after clearing 6'9” in just his first attempt. Later in the day, Greene led a strong charge in the javelin throw with a mark of 59.79m, good enough for 16th place.

Siddeeq and Thompson rounded out the Colonial performances during day two's action. Siddeeq placed 19th in the triple jump with a distance of 14.97m, while Thompson finished the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 29th place with a time of 9:48.21.
