Teaneck, N.J.?The Robert Morris University women's soccer team lost at Fairleigh Dickinson, 3-1, in its 2008 season finale to cap the year with a 6-12-0 record and a 2-7-0 mark in Northeast Conference play. FDU secured its first playoff berth in four years with the victory, which improves its season mark to 8-10 and 5-4 in league play.
Freshman Jess Sharik (North Huntington, Pa. / Norwin) finished as the team's leading scorer with 15 points tallying four goals and seven assists, marking the third straight season that a freshman has led the squad in scoring. Sophomore Kathleen Caggiano (Moon Township, Pa. / Moon) ? last season's leading scorer ? finished second on the team with 13 points, scoring a team-best six goals and picking up one helper.
The two hooked up for the final time in Sunday's season finale. Trailing 3-0 in the 84th minute, Sharik intercepted a clearance by the Knights defense. Sharik played the ball forward to Caggiano who fired a shot into the left side of the net.
Lora Lehr tallied four points for Fairleigh Dickinson, scoring once and assisting on the team's two other scores. She tallied a goal in the 10th minute, then assisted on a Emma Yamada marker in the 12th minute. Trezza finished off her day by assisting on Rashidah Sherman's eighth goal of the season in the 75th minute.
Robert Morris senior keeper Caitlin Dilal (Rochester, N.Y. / Our Lady of Mercy) finished with four saves while Rachel Derrico matched Dilal's total.
