Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex -The Robert Morris University women's soccer team saw its five-game unbeaten streak and perfect home record come to an end Friday afternoon with a 2-0 loss to Monmouth University. The Colonials were 4-0 at North Athletic Complex prior to Friday's nights clash. RMU falls to 7-6-1 on the season and 3-2-1 in conference play while the Hawks improve to 9-3-1 and stay unbeaten, 4-0-1, in the NEC.
The Hawks controlled the majority of play and got on the board in the 15th minute when they awarded a penalty kick. Ali Kliment did the honors, shooting low and right to open the scoring.
Monmouth put the game away late when Andrea Lopez and RMU freshman keeper Jessica Olin (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge) arrived at the same time for a ball played through the defense from midfield. The ball squirted free of Olin to the feet of Lopez, who collected and shot inside the right post.
The Hawks held a 23-5 advantage in shots and a 9-2 margin on corner kicks. Olin finished the game with eight saves, the third time this season that she has recorded that many. Lia Fierro stopped two shots en route to collecting the shutout.
Robert Morris returns to the pitch on Sunday, October 18, when they host Mount St. Mary's in a 1:00 p.m. contest.
