Colonials Tie Win Mark, Beat Mount St. Mary's, 1-0

Moon Township, Pa. / North Athletic Complex-The 2009 Robert Morris University women's soccer team tied the program record for wins with a 1-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's Sunday afternoon at North Athletic Complex. The Colonials are now 8-6-1, and 4-2-1 in Northeast Conference play, both win marks representing the most in team history.

The 1999 squad went 8-10 overall, the same record put up by the 2001 team. Robert Morris has won four NEC games in 2000, 2002 and 2007, but no Colonials team has ever made it into the conference playoffs.

In addition to the team records RMU freshman goalkeeper Jessica Olin (New Port Richey, Fla. / River Ridge) set the goalkeeper record for shutouts, recording her seventh of the season by making five saves. The seven shutouts this season also ties the team mark.

Robert Morris finally broke open the scoreless tie in the 78th minute. Sophomore Holly Sieradzki (Clifton, N.J. / Clifton) crossed ball to the left side of the box to sophomore Ayana Davis (Mt. Laurel, N.J. / Holy Cross). With a defender still trying to close, Davis poked the ball inside the left post from 12 yards out for the score.

Mount appeared to have taken the lead in the 22nd minute when a free kick was flicked off a head behind the defense to Emily Menotti who put the ball in the net. However, Menotti was in an offside position on the header and the goal was waved off.

The Mountaineers had another golden chance, again with Menotti carrying behind the Colonials defense in the 70th minute. Her final touch was too long, however, and Olinwas able to close the gap and block the shot on the breakaway chance. Olin finished the contest with five saves, tying the team record for shutouts with her seventh.

The Colonials held a 14-10 advantage in shots while committing just 12 fouls to 17 for Mount.

Robert Morris plays its home finale next Sunday, October 25, when they host Bryant in an 11:00 a.m. game. The Colonials will celebrate Senior Day prior to the contest.
