Clawson Named NEC Special Teams Player of the Week

Moon Township, Pa. - Junior kicker Garrett Clawson of the Robert Morris University football team was honored in the latest Northeast Conference weekly awards Monday as he was named the NEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

Clawson helped lead the Colonials to their second straight win by tying both a career high and an RMU single-game record with three field goals in a 9-7 win over Sacred Heart (10/31) at Joe Walton Stadium. Clawson connected from 23, 35 and 35 yards in helping lead Robert Morris to the victory.

It marks the second time this season Clawson has drilled three field goals in a game, as he also accomplished the feat at Bucknell (9/12). Clawson's second 35-yard field goal of the contest against the Pioneers, which came with 7:17 to play, proved to be the difference, as Sacred Heart closed its deficit to 9-7 with a touchdown pass from Dale Fink to Steve Tedesco with 5:28 remaining.

On the 2009 campaign, Clawson leads RMU with 39 points, having gone 8-for-11 in field goal attempts and 15-for-17 in point after attempts. He is the third Colonial in the 16-year history of the program to have turned booted three field goals in a game, and he is one of just two to turn the trick on multiple occasions.

Robert Morris takes to the road for its next contest, visiting Albany Saturday, Nov. 7, for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at University Field.
