Hackensack, N.J. / Rothman Center -The Robert Morris University women's basketball team stretched its win streak against Fairleigh Dickinson to 11 games with a 69-44 win over the Knights in Hackensack on Thursday afternoon. The Colonials improve to 11-7 on the season and 6-1 in the Northeast Conference while the Knights slip to 5-13 and 1-6 in conference.
RMU senior guard Angela Pace (Westchester, N.Y. / Woodlands (Monroe College)) finished with game-highs in both points and rebounds, tallying 17 points and 13 rebounds to go along with six assists. Junior Kristine Silaraja (Ventspils, Latvia / Ventspils (Barton County)) was the only other Colonial in double-digits, finishing with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting.
Including those two, Robert Morris got at least four points from nine players as they finished the game shooting 44.4 percent (28-63). They held the Knights to 25.4 percent (15-59) shootin gin the contest.
It was defense again that separated the Colonials for good in the second half. The Knights whittled a 14-point halftime deficit down to nine points, 49-40, when Jenna Strich buried a three with 12:14 left in the game.
That basket, however, would be the last for the Knights over the next 10:32. In the meantime, Robert Morris tallied 20 points, finishing the contest on a 20-4 run to pull away for the 69-44 victory.
The Colonials broke open a 15-13 game with good defense, holding the Knights scoreless for 6:07 in the middle of the second half. They used that to go on a 14-0 run, charging out to a 27-13 lead when with Pace tallying six points during that stretch.
Robert Morris returns to action this Saturday, January 23, when they travel an hour south of Hackensack to take on the Monmouth Hawks at Noon. The game will be aired on tape-delay on Fox Sports Pittsburgh at 8:00 p.m.
