Robert Morris Falls to #24 UMass, 6-1

Clearwater, Fla. - In the final day of the USF Under Armour Tournament, the Robert Morris University softball team faced nationally ranked, No.-24 Massachusetts on Sunday morning.  The Minutewomen exploded offensivelyas the Colonials struggled to find their bats in the, 6-1, setback.

UMass picked up two runs in the bottom of the second inning and then tacked on one in the third, and another trio of scores in the bottom half of the fourth frame to hold a 6-0 lead.

Robert Morris finally got a run on the board in the top of the sixth when Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) led off with a triple to right center.  Then with two outs, Katrina Gallagher's (Canonsburg, Pa. / Canonsburg-McMillan) bunt down the left field line cleared the UMass infield to make it 6-1.

Second-year pitcher, Alexa Bryson (Greensburg, Pa. / Greater Latrobe), made the start for RMU and allowed eight hits and six runs in four innings of work.  Junior Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio /Kenston) then pitched two innings of scoreless relief while giving up just one hit.

The Colonials (1-4 ; 0-0 NEC) now enjoy a day of rest as they travel from Clearwater to Orlando for the second half of their southern road trip.  On Tuesday, RMU will face Fairfield and Butler in the squad's opening day at the Rebel Spring Games.
