INITIAL ELIGIBILITY/ELIGIBILITY CENTER PROCEDURES
An entering freshman with no previous full-time college attendance shall meet the academic and amateurism requirements set forth by the NCAA Eligibility Center in order to practice, compete,and receive athletic grant-in-aid.
Procedure:
- The Office of Athletic Compliance monitors the initial eligibility status of incoming freshmen prospective student-athletes.
- The Office of Athletic Compliance monitoring begins in the fall when RMU coaches begin providing the names and birthdates of prospects for submission to the NCAA Eligibility Center. The Office of Athletic Compliance submits the names to the Eligibility Center through the NCAA Eligibility Center website.
- Coaches will notify the prospects they must register online with the Eligibility Center at: www.eligibilitycenter.org. In addition, coaches may send the prospects the Guide for the College-Bound Student-Athlete booklet and release form. The prospective student-athlete will need to complete the following Eligibility Center requirements:
- Student Release Form (SRF) with a registration fee ($50 – US Residents, $75 –International);
- Official high school transcript sent directly from the high school;
- 48-H form (a list of core courses) from the high school;
- Passing test score(s) (SAT, ACT) sent directly from the testing agency; and
- Amateurism questionnaire
- All prospective student-athlete’s who are provided an Official Visit must be registered with the NCAA Eligibility Center and placed on Robert Morris University’s Institutional Request List (IRL) prior to the start of their visit.
- Coaches will notify the Office of Athletic Compliance of any prospective student-athlete planning to make an Official Visit with an Official Visit Request Form that will provide sufficient information to "activate" each prospect on the IRL. The Office of Athletic Compliance will notify the coaches if any prospect is not registered with the Eligibility Center. Official Visits will not be approved until the prospect has registered.
- Once registered, coaches are expected to assist in the monitoring and education process for prospective student-athletes by viewing their status on the Eligibility Center Website.
- Coaches may only receive RMU’s university-specific Eligibility Center passwords if they have a signed "Eligibility Center Confidentiality Agreement on file in the Office of Athletic Compliance."
- Coaches receive every other year training on all Eligibility Center requirements and how to perform an evaluation. As such, coaches are expected to compile transcripts and test scores on all prospective student-athletes for an initial preliminary evaluation. As questions arise or student-athletes appear to be laboring under unique circumstances, all questions should be directed to the Office of Athletic Compliance as soon as possible.
- Upon receipt of a final high school transcript, proof of graduation, and a valid ACT or SAT test score, the Eligibility Center provides a final evaluation. The Eligibility Center designates prospects as being "Certified" or "Not Certified" for Division I competition and informs institutions by posting the final evaluation on their website
- The Office of Athletic Compliance codes the qualifier status of prospective student-athletes into the NCAA Compliance Assistant Software and denotes qualifier status on the "Eligibility Center Check" spreadsheet based on verification through the NCAA Eligibility Center website.
