Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University field hockey team opens its season at 1:00 p.m. Saturday against Colgate in Hamilton, N.Y., marking the first game of Catherine Myrick's (Twin Valley, Pa. / Twin Valley) senior season. Recently she sat down with RMUColonials.com to talk about being a senior and the upcoming campaign with the Colonials.
What most excites you about the upcoming season?
Myrick: "I have to say the potential of this team. Last season we looked good early but ended up struggling, this year I think we have what it takes for a winning season."
What is the best thing about playing field hockey at Robert Morris?
Myrick: "The fact that I am playing field hockey is great. A lot of people would love to play at the college level and be in the same position."
What are your expectations for this season's team?
Myrick: "I think we all bond really well and my main expectation is that we stick together as a team and as a family. I want to prove a lot of people wrong."
What is the most important thing to do during the summer to prepare for the start of the preseason?
Myrick: "Meet and work with Todd Hamer (Strength and conditioning coach at Robert Morris). There is nothing better."
As one of the team's more experienced players, what type of leader will you be?
Myrick: "I hoping to be a good leader and do the best I can."
How have you developed as a player since you first arrived at Robert Morris?
Myrick: "I have become a lot more mature. I am a bit more calm and confident because I have been out there and I know what to expect."
What advice would you give the freshman class heading into the start of preseason?
Myrick: "I just tell them 'you are here for a reason so don't doubt yourself.'"
What is the one thing you have really worked on from the end of last season to the start of the 2010 season?
Myrick: "I just really worked on getting better every day. I didn't work on anything specific, I just really worked on getting better all around. I wanted to keep improving each day."
What are some of the goals you have for yourself and for the Colonials this season?
Myrick: "I want us to just leave everything out on the field. Hopefully we can get over all the speed bumps we encounter and stick together and we will have a great season."
