Four Former Colonials Head to the Next Level

Pittsburgh, Pa.  - Three Former Robert Morris University men's hockey players Dave Cowan (2006-10), Aaron Clarke (2005-07) and Ryan Cruthers (2006-08) have signed professional contracts while former equipment manager Jared Mycyk (2004-10) also signed with a professional squad.

The four join Rob Cowan (2004-08), Reid Edmondson (2009-10), Jake Obermeyer (2006-08) and Matt Krug (2008-09), who inked professional deals in early August.

Cowan, a two-time captain, who played in 30 games a season ago for the Colonials totaling six points (1-5-6), signed with the Reading Royals. Following the end of his NCAA campaign, Cowan became the first Robert Morris player to jump directly to the American Hockey League signing a deal with the Norfolk Admirals. The native of Calgary, Alberta, earned the team's Most Valuable Player award as well as Most Inspirational and Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Clarke signed with the Stockton Thunder, the ECHL affiliate of the NHL's Edmonton Oilers and San Jose Sharks. The Peterborough, Ontario native played for Robert Morris from 2005-07 after transferring from Niagara. Clarke totaled 44 career points (16-28-44) for the Blue and White with Red in 54 games. Last season, Clarke set career highs for goals (25), assists (32) and points (57).

Cruthers, Robert Morris' single-season scoring leader, agreed to terms with the Reading Royals, returning to the team he led in scoring just a season ago.  The Farmingdale, N.Y., native dished out 71 points (22-49-71) for the Royals a season ago and led all of the ECHL in playoff scoring with 24 points (8-16-24). Cruthers, the 2008 College Hockey America Player of the Year, ranks third in the Robert Morris record book with 86 career points (39-47-86).

After spending the last six seasons with Robert Morris, Mycyk joins the Mississippi River Kings as the team's equipment manager. Mycyk served as the men's hockey team equipment manager for the program's first six seasons and also worked with the women's ice hockey team and the football team in his time with Robert Morris.
