RMU Announces 2011 Recruiting Class

Moon Township, Pa. - Head Coach Joe Walton of the Robert Morris University football program has announced that 19 players have agreed to continue their careers for the Colonials in 2011.

Among the new additions to the RMU roster are 11 players who have signed National Letters of Intent, five mid-year transfers and three additional commitments.

The 2011 football recruiting class features student-athletes from eight different states and includes 10 players on offense, five on defense, two on special teams and a pair that could play on either side of the ball.

Each of RMU's six recruits from the state of Pennsylvania hail from the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL), and the Colonials have also recruited multiple student-athletes from the states of Ohio, California and Maryland.

"Coming off a championship season in which a number of our key players were seniors, it was important to bring in a solid recruiting class," Walton said. "I think we've accomplished what we set out to do, as we've recruited a number of student-athletes that not only will provide immediate competition in training camp and practice, but will fight for playing time right away. I look forward to seeing some of these recruits in spring practice as well as when we open training camp in August."

Four of RMU's incoming recruits play on the offensive line, while another, Cory Pitkavish (Brackenridge, Pa. / Highlands), could player either offensive or defensive line. The Colonials also welcome three players that can play wide receiver and a trio of defensive backs.

"We're extremely excited about the latest group of recruits that will wear a Robert Morris uniform," recruiting and defensive coordinator Scott Farison said. "We feel we have added a very strong class of student-athletes. It was important for us to find recruits that would be able to compete right away since we've lost a great class of seniors, and I think we did that. Competition makes any program better, and this class is full of competitors."

Spring practice for Robert Morris begins Monday, March 28, and will continue for three weeks. The date for the annual spring game is to be announced.
