Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University Director of Athletics Craig Coleman, M.D., announced today the hiring of Ryan Fleischer as assistant athletic director for compliance.
In his role at RMU, Fleischer will ensure the University's 23 Division I sports, along with faculty, staff and athletic boosters, operate within institutional, Northeast Conference and NCAA rules and regulations.
"I'm extremely proud to be selected as the new assistant athletic director for compliance at Robert Morris University," Fleischer said. "Being from the Pittsburgh region and having paid close attention to RMU's success from afar, I look forward to playing an important role in the future success both our programs and student-athletes will have."
A native of Sarver, Pa., Fleischer spent the last three years as the assistant director of compliance at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg, Va.
While at William & Mary, Fleischer oversaw several areas of NCAA compliance, including student-athlete eligibility, recruiting and camps and clinics. He also acted as the departmental liaison to various campus constituencies, including the admission office, faculty athletics representative and the registrar's office.
In May of 2008 Fleischer was awarded a Juris Doctor from the Dickinson School of Law at Penn State University. During his time in law school, Fleischer was honored with the Clark Griffith Award: Best Club Brief in the fall of 2007 for a course in baseball salary arbitration.
Fleischer earned a Bachelor of Science degree in management in 2005 from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pa., earning the Presidential Fellow honor each of his four years.
While at Bucknell, Fleischer was selected as a Presidential Fellow, which allowed him to serve as an intern in the university's NCAA compliance office for four years. As part of his duties, Fleischer analyzed NCAA rules and regulations to assure in the department's compliance, drafted documents interpreting NCAA rules and regulations and track student-athlete recruiting, financial aid and eligibility data.
A member of the state bar of Pennsylvania, Fleischer resides in Pittsburgh.
