PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's ice hockey team placed 24 of its 26 student-athletes on the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team announced by the conference Thursday.
"Having 24 of our 26 players being named to the all-league academic team is an excellent achievement," head men's hockey coach Derek Schooley said. "We posted one of our best seasons this past year on the ice and an excellent season in the classroom."
The Colonials' 24 student-athletes on the AHA All-Academic Team ties the conference record for selections in a single season and ranked as the most in the 2010-11 academic year. To qualify for the Atlantic Hockey All-Academic Team, an individual must post a 3.0 grade point average or higher in all of the academic periods during which his team actively competed.
Robert Morris posted a team grade point average of 3.577 during the 2010-11 academic year and had 17 student-athletes post over a 3.50 grade point average in the 2010-11 academic year. During the 2010-11 academic year, the Colonials had three players record at least one semester with a perfect 4.00 GPA. Furman South earned the team's student-athlete of the year award, owning a GPA over 3.90.
