Red Flash Halt Colonials in NEC Consolation

West Windsor, N.J. - The Robert Morris University women's tennis team concluded its 2011-12 campaign Saturday afternoon with a 4-2 loss to in-state rival Saint Francis (Pa.) in a consolation match of the 2012 Northeast Conference Tournament at Mercy County Tennis Center.

The Colonials finish the season with an overall record of 6-16.

RMU picked up the doubles point and also earned a singles victory at the No. 1 flight to account for their two points.

Sophomore Carolina Mourao-Teixeira (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) wrapped up an impressive campaign for Robert Morris by cruising to 6-0, 6-0 win at the first singles flight over Devynn Sarver.

Mourao-Teixeira finishes her 2011-12 season with an overall record of 12-10 in singles play and will enter her third season of eligibility for RMU next year with a career mark of 22-16, tops among active Colonials.

In doubles action against the Red Flash, juniors Samantha Alves (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) and Clarissa Chen (Winnipeg, Manitoba / Winnipeg Secondary) combined for an 8-6 win over Nuria Vallas and Shivani Patel at the No. 2 flight.

The Colonials were able to clinch the doubles point thanks to an 8-4 win at the third flight from junior Isabella Novella (Santo Andre, Brazil) and freshman Kourtney Passero (Victor, N.Y. / Victor Central) over Sarver and Laura Husband.

Alves and Chen combined to go 4-3 in doubles action in 2011-12, all at the No. 2 flight, while the top doubles tandem for Robert Morris was Mourao-Teixeira and junior Carla Limon (Cordoba, Mexico), who combined for seven victories at the No. 1 flight.
