Richmond, Ky. / EKU Soccer Field - The Robert
Morris University women's soccer team dropped its 2012 season opener in
overtime, 1-0, at Eastern Kentucky Sunday afternoon. The Colonials slip to 0-1,
marking the third consecutive season that the Colonials have lost the opening
game of the season.
Neither team was able to find the net in the 90 minutes
of regulation time, but just 2:16 seconds into the extra session the Colonel (2-0)
broke up the shutout. A pinpoint shot from 30 yards out by Taylor Perkins snuck
in just under the crossbar and gave EKU the victory.
Freshman Chelsea de Jager (Grimsby, Ontario / Governor
Simcoe) earned the start in goal for Robert Morris stopping four shots.
Freshman Lauren Pietrowski (Shillington, Pa. / Governor Mifflin) took the Colonials
two shots, putting her second on goal but was unable to beat Colonels keeper
Erika Wolfe.
Host EKU outshot RMU, 10-2, and held the edge in corners,
8-2. Each team was called offsides four times.
Robert Morris travels across the county to the Oakland
neighborhood of Pittsburgh to take on the Pitt Panthers Wednesday, August 22.
Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m.
