Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University students, staff and sports fans helped the University raise $255 and bring in a record 222 toys for the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots initiative over the past month.
Colonial fans were asked to donate a toy in exchange for free admittance at five different RMU home intercollegiate athletic events in the sports of football, men's basketball, women's basketball, women's hockey and men's hockey. Also, during a two-week period, the RMU Band played holiday music in the Nicholson Center on the Moon Township Campus and took in donations.
"It was a little bit of a change playing live music in the Nicholson Center," junior Alex Romano of the RMU Band said. "But it was for a good cause. We were all kids of that age once, so we know what getting a toy during the holidays is like. We were all happy to help."
This year marks the fifth in a row that the RMU Department of Athletics has partnered with the Marine Corps Toys for Tots.
