Madison, Wisc. - Nov. 7, 2009 - The Robert Morris University Colonials nearly took down the No. 6 Wisconsin Badgers for a second time on Saturday afternoon at the Kohl Center, but the Badgers prevailed in overtime and won 3-2. Wisconsin led for the majority of play, but sophomore Brianna Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders) scored a goal at 6:55 in the third period to knot the score 2-2 and send the contest into overtime.

The loss drops the Colonials to 4-6-0 overall, while the Badgers improve to a 6-4-0 mark.

"I am very proud of the level of fight our players showed," said head coach Nate Handrahan. "We came back twice and gave ourselves a chance to sweep on the road or at least get three of four points. It is not very often that you get those chances against a great team like Wisconsin. This weekend was great preparation for us heading into league play next week."

The first period was a battle between the Badgers and the Colonials with neither squad's blue line allowing solid shots off. RMU recorded six shots to Wisconsin's five. However, with less than five minutes left in the first period Wisconsin's Emily Kranz redirected a shot made by Stefanie McKeough to give the Badgers the first score of the game. Kelly Nash was credited with the second helper.

Wisconsin continued to hold their lead for the first half of the second stanza of play, but after Wisconsin's Jasmine Giles was called for high sticking freshman Jamie Joslin (Richmond Hill, Ontario / Aurora Panthers) took advantage of the extra-man advantage and fired a shot from the blue line, which found the open net to knot the score 1-1. The goal marked her first of the season and B. Delaney and Jacki Gibson (Burlington, Ontario / Burlington Barracudas) captured the assists on the play.

In a reversal of events, RMU's Maria Stoa (Bloomington, Minn. / Eden Prairie) was charged with high sticking at 12:53, which led to a power play goal by Nash at 13:28 to give Wisconsin a 2-1 lead. McKeough and Saige Pacholok were both awarded with the helpers.

The Colonials did not let the Badgers get too comfortable with their one goal lead. Within seven minutes of the final period, B. Delaney scored an unassisted goal during an extra man advantage to deadlock the game at 2-2 and send the contest into overtime.

Robert Morris played aggressively throughout overtime and had a chance to win the game when B. Delaney was awarded with a penalty shot at 1:17. Unfortunately, Wisconsin goalie Alanna McCready was able to make the save and the Colonials and Badgers continued to fight in an eagerness to score a goal.

Finally, at 3:13 Wisconsin's Brooke Ammerman ended the contest when she found teammate Mallory Deluce's rebound and knocked it into the net to win the game 3-2.

RMU's Daneca Butterfield (Kronau, Saskatchewan / Notre Dame Hounds) finished the contest with 34 saves, while McCready tallied 20 stops. RMU was successful on two of seven power play opportunities, while the Badgers were able to convert on one of three chances.

The Colonials return to the ice on Saturday, November 14 to open CHA play against Niagara at 7:00 p.m. in Niagara, N.Y. and face the Purple Eagles in game two of the series the following day at 2:00 p.m.
