Men's Hockey 2010-11 Schedule (PDF)
Pittsburgh, Pa. - July, 15, 2010 - The Robert Morris University men's hockey team announced its 2010-11 schedule Thursday, featuring 15 home games and an Oct. 17 matchup with Air Force inside CONSOL Energy Center in the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase.
"With our move to the Atlantic Hockey Association, we will see many new teams at the RMU Island Sports Center, headlined by the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase against Air Force at the new state of the art CONSOL Energy Center," Robert Morris head coach Derek Schooley said. "As always, we have challenged our teams with a tough non-conference schedule, which features tough road games at North Dakota and Ohio State. We are looking forward to our season and the start of Atlantic Hockey play."
Robert Morris hosts two exhibition contests prior to the start of the regular season, against Queens College Oct. 2 and the team's annual Blue and White scrimmage Oct. 3. The Colonials open the 2010-11 campaign on the road Oct. 9-10 against American International in Springfield, Mass. The road matchups with the Yellow Jackets will mark Robert Morris' first conference games as a member of the Atlantic Hockey Association.
After its conference clash with American International, Robert Morris travels to Columbus, Ohio, to take on Ohio State, Oct. 15, in non-conference play. After the single-game matchup with the Buckeyes, Robert Morris hosts the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase.
This season's Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase will feature a triple header opening with the Robert Morris women's hockey team taking on Northeastern at noon followed by Pittsburgh taking on the ACHA club at 3:00 p.m. In the night cap at 6:00 p.m., the Colonials welcome conference foe Air Force to the CONSOL Energy Center, the new home of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Last season, Robert Morris knocked off then-No. 1 ranked Miami (OH) in the Pittsburgh College Hockey Showcase.
Robert Morris then hits the road for a weekend spilt with conference foes RIT and Niagara. The Colonials battles RIT, the defending AHA conference champion, Oct. 29, and close the month against former College Hockey America rival and new Atlantic Hockey foe Niagara, Oct. 30.
November opens for the Colonials with a weekend (Nov. 5-6) in Worcester, Mass., against Holy Cross. Robert Morris plays its first regular season games of the 2010-11 season at the RMU Island Sports Center, Nov. 12 -13, against Sacred Heart. After the visit from the Pioneers, Mercyhurst travels to Pittsburgh, Pa., Nov. 19, for a showdown with the Colonials. Following the Friday contest with Mercyhurst, Robert Morris travels to Buffalo, N.Y. Nov. 20, to battle Canisius.
Bentley travels to the RMU Island Sports Center, Dec. 3-4, for the only its fifth and sixth meetings all-time against Robert Morris. The Colonials make their only December road trip the 11th-12th taking on former CHA foe Alabama-Huntsville. Robert Morris closes the 2010 calendar year with a weekend matchup, Dec. 18-19, at home against Colgate.
Similar to the 2008-09 season, Robert Morris will face a national hockey power following the Christmas break. The Colonials travel north to take on North Dakota, Jan. 7-8, in Grand Forks, N.D. Inside College Hockey.com named The Fighting Sioux its top team for 2011.
After the trip to Grand Forks, Robert Morris returns home to host Connecticut, Jan. 14-15, at the RMU Island Sports Center. The Colonials travel to battle Army for the first time, Jan. 21-22, in West Point, N.Y. Robert Morris closes the January with a home-and-home against Niagara, Jan. 28-29. The Purple Eagles welcome the Colonials, Jan. 28, and Robert Morris hosts Niagara the following night.
February opens for Robert Morris, Feb. 3, on the road against Canisius. The Golden Griffins travel to Pittsburgh, Pa., the following Saturday (Feb. 5) with a matchup with the Colonials. Following the two-game set with Canisius, Robert Morris will battle Mercyhurst in a home-and-home with Friday's game in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Saturday's game on Mercyhurst's home ice in Buffalo, N.Y. In their final home game of the 2010-11 season, the Colonials welcome defending conference champion RIT to Pittsburgh, Feb. 18-19. The regular season comes to a close for Robert Morris with a road trip to Air Force, Feb. 25-26.
Following the regular season Robert Morris advances to the Atlantic Hockey Championship Tournament. There are four first round games during the weekend of March 4 or 5 in which the bottom eight teams face off in single-elimination games. The quarterfinals will be played the following weekend on the higher seeds home ice in a best two-out-of-three series, March 11-13. The tournament then switches to neutral ice for the semifinals (March 18) and championship (March 19) at the Blue Cross Arena in Rochester, N.Y.
