Moon Township, Pa. - Junior Andre Coiro (Rio De Janeiro, Brazil) of the Robert Morris University men's tennis became the first Colonial to earn All-Northeast Conference honors in over a decade Tuesday, as he was named to the All-NEC Second Team in a vote of league head coaches. Coiro earned the honor at the No. 3 singles flight after posting a record of 8-2 in his final 10 singles matches of the 2011-12 campaign. Overall he finished 9-15 in singles action, including a 4-2 mark at the third singles. Against league foes, Coiro was a perfect 6-0, including a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Garrett Lane of Quinnipiac in the 2012 NEC Tournament. Coiro also closed his season in winning fashion, posting a 6-4, 6-3 win over Sergio Carvajal of Saint Francis (Pa.) in an NEC Tournament consolation match. Coiro is the first student-athlete from Robert Morris to earn All-NEC accolades since former Colonial Mario Woldt (1998-2001) was named to the 2000 All-NEC First Team at the No. 2 singles flight. Robert Morris finished with an overall record of 5-18, including a 1-3 mark in the NEC. |
