Moon Township, Pa. - Senior assistant captain Brianna Delaney (Stittsville, Ontario / NCCP Raiders) and freshman forward Katelyn Scott (Brighton, Mich. / Belle Tire) of the Robert Morris University women's hockey team were honored as College Hockey America's Co-Scholar-Athletes of the Year as announced in a league release Thursday afternoon.

Delaney and Scott, who both earned the honor courtesy of sterling 4.0 grade point averages during the 2011-12 academic year, become the first student-athletes in program history to claim this honor from the CHA. It also represents the first time since the CHA was formed in 2002 that two student-athletes from the same team shared the Scholar-Athlete of the Year accolade.

College Hockey America's Scholar-Athlete award is given annually to the student-athlete(s) who achieves the highest grade point average over the course of the academic semesters of competition.

Delaney and Scott also helped RMU take an amazing five of the six spots on the league's Academic All-Star Team, which rewards a half-dozen student-athletes in the conference for posting the highest GPAs at their respective positions. Senior assistant captain Kathryn Stack (Edmonton, Alberta / Edmonton Thunder) and sophomores Thea Imbrogno (Etobicoke, Ontario / Mississauga Jr. Chiefs) and Anneline Lauziere (St. Thomas, Ontario / London Jr. Devilettes) joined the aforementioned duo to grab all but one place on the team.

Additionally, these five Colonials were part of a larger group of 14 student-athletes from Robert Morris that garnered All-Academic Team honors from the CHA.

Delaney, an elementary education major, claims her third-consecutive CHA All-Academic award after scoring the game-winning goal in RMU's CHA Championship victory to earn All-Tournament Team honors. Delaney departed the program as the all-time leader in goals (53), assists (68), points (121), game-winning goals (nine) and power-play goals (17).

Scott, an actuarial science major, skated in all 32 games for Robert Morris in her rookie campaign and saved her best performances for the biggest moments. She assisted on the game-winning goal in RMU's semifinal victory over Niagara before opening the scoring fewer than four minutes in to the championship against nationally-ranked Mercyhurst by tallying her first-career goal.

Imbrogno, a biology major, was one of just six student-athletes in the league to earn both All-CHA and All-Academic honors this past season, and the 2011-12 campaign marks the second straight season in which she has accomplished that feat. She completed the season with 16 goals, 20 assists and 36 points, topping the previous single-season school records in the latter two categories.

Lauziere, a biology major, notched her second-consecutive Academic All-Star honor courtesy of a 3.97 GPA for the second straight academic year. She tallied a goal against nationally-ranked Bemidji State and finished second among defenseman on the squad with a +12 plus/minus in 2011-12.

Stack, an elementary education major, collected her third straight All-Academic award after serving as an assistant captain for her second year in a row in a Colonial uniform. She was awarded CHA All-Tournament Team honors this past March after leading RMU with an impressive 12 blocked shots in the event.

Junior Kristen DiCiocco (Niagara Falls, Ontario / Stoney Creek Jr. Sabres), who won the league's Regular-Season Goaltending Trophy and was named MVP of the CHA Tournament, was one of just two student-athletes among the eight-member All-CHA First Team to garner All-Academic honors. DiCiocco tallied a career-high and RMU postseason record 45 saves in the CHA Championship and posted a .947 save percentage overall during the tournament.

To qualify for the CHA All-Academic Team, a student-athlete must post a 3.0 GPA or higher in all of the academic periods during which her team was actively competing. While 3.0 represents the minimum standard to qualify, all 14 of Robert Morris' selections actually achieved a GPA of at least 3.2 during the past academic year and 12 of the 14 posted a GPA of 3.5 or greater.

A complete listing of Robert Morris' CHA All-Academic Team selections follows:

Student-Athlete - 2011-12 GPA - Major

Brianna Delaney - 4.00 - Elementary Education

Cobina Delaney - 3.75 - Marketing; Management (Double-Major)

Kathryn Stack - 3.82 - Elementary Education

Courtney Vinet - 3.71 - Marketing; Management (Double-Major)

Delaney and Scott are the sixth and seventh Colonials honored in the 2011-12 academic year as the student-athlete of the year in their respective conference. They join Nolan Nearhoof (football), Hannah Veith (volleyball), Casey Folga (indoor track & field), Kiel Matisz (men's lacrosse) and Jaci Timko (softball).

Robert Morris' CHA Tournament title capped a landmark season in which the Colonials broke the school records for wins, longest unbeaten streak, longest winning streak and most league points. Despite being picked to finish last in the league, RMU posted a 13-win turnaround in 2011-12, which was the largest such improvement nationally, leading head coach Paul Colontino to be selected as USCHO's National Coach of the Year.
