RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (3/3/10)
Taking home his second RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor of the 2009-10 season is senior guard Mezie Nwigwe of the men's basketball team. A native of Hyattsville, Md., and a hospitality and tourism management major, Nwigwe was named the 2010 Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in a vote by league head coaches March 2. Nwigwe helped guide the Colonials to a share of the 2010 NEC regular-season championship with a 15-3 record by being at the heart of a defense that led the conference in field goal percent defense (.383) and three-point field goal percent defense (.296) againsts conference opposition. Nwigwe ranks second for Robert Morris in steals (41) entering the 2010 NEC Tournament while producing averages of 8.5 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
