Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman Bethany Ledford (Huntingdon, Pa. / Huntingdon) of the Robert Morris University women's outdoor track & field team took home a weekly honor Tuesday, as she was tabbed the latest Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week.
Ledford is the third rookie for RMU to earn NEC Rookie of the Week accolades on the 2012 outdoor campaign, joining teammates Aubree Ray (Middletown, Pa. / Middletown Area) and Tara Van Schie (Haarlem, Netherlands / Driehuis NH).
Ray was named the season's inaugural NEC Rookie of the Week March 20, 2012, while Van Schie grabbed the honor March 27, 2012.
At the James Madison Invitational (4/21/12), Ledford produced a personal best in the pole vault with a leap of 3.45 meters (11'3.75"), which was good enough to claim the individual championship.
Thanks to the performance, Ledford moved into second place on the NEC leaderboard, trailing only junior teammate Casey Folga (Erie, Pa. / Harborcreek), who posted a mark of 3.48 meters (11'5") at the Bennie Benson Memorial Invitational (4/14/12) at the RMU Island Sports Center on Neville Island.
In fact, Robert Morris boasts three of the top four performers in the pole vault so far this season, as junior Sarah Lueck (Monrovia, Md. / Urbana) currently ranks fourth with a leap of 3.25 meters (10'8").
The Colonials return to action Saturday, April 28, by taking part in the Saint Francis (Pa.) Invitational in Loretto, Pa., their final tuneup for the 2012 NEC Outdoor Track & Field Championships that take place in Emmitsburg, Md., Saturday, May 5, and Sunday, May 6.
