RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (5/16/12)

Sophomore Chris Carper didn't pick up a javelin the entire 2012 spring season until taking part in the event at the 2012 Northeast Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Emmitsburg, Md. He promptly earned All-NEC Second Team honors by earning silver. A week later, Carper again finished second in the event, this time at the 2012 IC4A/ECAC Championships in Princeton, N.J. Thanks to his performance, Carper earns the latest RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor. A native of Altoona, Pa., Carper posted a toss of 65.44 meters (214'8") at the IC4A's to finish as runner-up to Monmouth's Vincent DuVernois, who finished with a throw of 66.17 meters (217'1"). Carper will now participate in the 2012 NCAA East Regional May 24-26 in Jacksonville, Fla., the second straight year he has qualified for the meet.
