Moon Township, Pa. - Freshman Vega Gimeno-Martinez (Valencia, Spain / Spanish National U-20), a forward on the Robert Morris University women's basketball team, was named the Choice Hotels Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week on Monday afternoon. The Spanish National Team member had a breakout performance against Coppin State in just her second start with the Colonials.

Gimeno-Martinez became the second NEC freshman in as many weeks to score 24 points in a game and win the Choice Hotels Rookie of the Week award as a result. In what was her second start in five  appearances this season, the freshman foward shot 6-of-7 from downtown en route to her game-high 24, grabbed four rebounds, and swatted three shots in leading the Colonials to a 67-58 victory over Coppin State.

Gimeno-Martinez contributed six points, five rebounds, and one block in 28 minutes off the bench during the RMU's four-point setback at Wright State. For the week, she averaged 15.0 ppg, 4.5 rpg, and 2.0 bpg while going a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.

The Colonials make the 17-mile trip across Allegheny County to take on Duquesne this Tuesday, December 1, in a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at the A.J. Palumbo Center.
