Robert Morris University men's golf team finds itself in a tie for fourth-place
at the 2012 Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championships through the first 18
holes of the three-round event being played at the Championship Course of the
LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Mount St. Mary's boasts four golfers in the tournament's
top-10 standings and sits first after carding a 297 team score Friday.
Fairleigh Dickinson is second with a 301 and Saint Francis (Pa.) (305) is
third. The Colonials and Sacred Heart are both within striking distance after
scoring 309. LIU Brooklyn and Central Connecticut State are sixth (314)
followed by Monmouth (318), Wagner (328) and St. Francis (N.Y.) (345).
The Colonials were led in the opening round by junior Max
Cahn (Nyack, N.Y. / Nyack) and freshman Ryan Prokay (Grove City, Pa. / Grove
City) after each carded rounds of four-over par 76. Cahn was one-under par
through the first 14 holes before finishing five-over on the final four holes.
Prokay carded a 37 on the opening nine holes of the 6,919-yard par-72 layout
before coming home with a 39. Both players are tied for 12th place.
Freshman Bo Lustig (Belle Vernon, Pa. / Belle Vernon)
finished up with a 78, joining Prokay and Cahn in scoring a birdie on the
par-five 14thhole. Lustig also collected a bird on the par-four
fourth. Junior Brock Pompeani (Aliquippa, Pa. / Hopewell) struggled to a 43 on
the front nine before shooting even par on the final nine holes to card a 79
and put himself in a tie for 27th. Junior Brandon Pompeani (Aliquippa,
Pa. / Hopewell) is tied for 33rd as he shot 40 on both nines to
finish his opening foray with an 80.
Round two of the event takes place Saturday, May 6, on
the same course.
