RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (4/18/12)
Earning the latest RMU Female Student-Athlete of the Week of the 2012 spring campaign is sophomore Carolina Mourao-Teixeira of the tennis squad. A native of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, Mourao-Teixeira improved to a perfect 5-0 in singles play against Northeast Conference foes this season with a pair of victories at the No. 1 flight last weekend. Mourao-Teixeira opened the weekend with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Nicole Lippens of Monmouth, then posted a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Ewa Opala of St. Francis (N.Y.) the next afternoon. Thanks to the pair of victories, Mourao-Teixeira improved to 11-8 on the 2011-12 in singles action, all of which have come at the No. 1 flight. Her 11 wins are the most by a Colonial at the flight since former Colonial Nora Peters (1997-2001) finished 17-5 during the 1999-2000 season.
