New Robert Morris head coach Andrew Toole announced today the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent for the 2010-11 season

Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University men's basketball head coach Andrew Toole announced today the signing of four players to National Letters of Intent as part of its 2010-11 recruiting class.

Signing NLI's and joining the Colonials for the 2010-11 season will be freshmen guards Yann Charles (Longueuil, Quebec / Champlain St. Albert), Anthony Myers (Washington, D.C. / Charis Prep) and Elton Roy (Houston, Texas / Yates) and junior forward Bernard Webb (Bridgeport, Conn. / Barton Junior College).

"We're very excited about our recruiting class for the 2010-11 season," Toole said. "In addition to being talented, the student-athletes that we are bringing in fit both our style and system very well. They'll complement the returning players that we have on our roster in order to help us continue the success the program has had over the last three seasons."

Freshmen Brook Turson (Plymouth, Ohio / Plymouth) and Malcolm Lemmons (Washington, D.C. / Gonzaga College High School), who signed during the early signing period in November, were released from their NLI's and will not be attending Robert Morris.

Charles, 6'5" and 220 pounds, averaged 18.2 points and 7.1 rebounds for Champlain St. Albert in 2009-10. He was named both the Quebec Player of the Year and the FQSE Player of the Year and earned All-Canada honors. He is scheduled to appear in the All-Canada Classic June 14, nicknamed the "Rumble In The T-Dot", which will take place in Toronto, Ontario, at the Air Canada Centre.

"Yann is a versatile player that can play both inside and outside," Toole said. "He has great size and strength for an incoming freshman, and that's going to help him in his transition to Division I basketball. He's able to step out and make jump shots, but he can also battle down low. I see him competing and contributing in his first season at Robert Morris."

The 5'11", 170-pound Myers played for Charis Prep in Wilson, N.C., during the 2009-10 campaign, averaging 11.8 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. Charis Prep finished with an overall record of 36-6 last season, advancing to the finals of the National Prep School Tournament.

Myers played high school basketball at McKinley Tech in Washington, D.C., earning All-Met honors from the Washington Post while also taking part in the Capital Classic All-Star game. Myers' cousin is former Colonial point guard Derek Coleman (2003-07), who is one of 19 members of the 1,000-point club at Robert Morris.

"Anthony is a true point guard," Toole said. "He's quick and is also looking to get his other teammates involved at all times. He can really push the ball and can pass in the open floor. Not only that, but he's an incredible on-the-ball defender. I think he'll really push our returning guards a great deal, and he's a player that has an opportunity to make an immediate impact in his first season."

Roy, 6'2" and 195 pounds, played for Yates High School in Houston, Texas, which was ranked No. 1 in the country by both Rivals.com and ESPN at times throughout the 2009-10 season. As a senior, Roy averaged 15.1 points, 4.6 rebounds and 3.3 assists per game to help him earn first team all-district accolades. Yates claimed back-to-back Texas 4A state championships in both 2009 and 2010.

"Elton is from one of the highest scoring teams in high school basketball, and he knows how to play the game," Toole said. "He is an aggressive scoring wing who can knock down shots, and I expect that he'll be able to compete for playing time right away."

The 6'9", 230-pound Webb, will have three years of eligibility at Robert Morris. Originally committed to Manhattan out of high school, Webb played one season at Barton Community College in Great Bend, Kansas, before accepting a non-medical redshirt in 2009-10. As a freshman in 2008-09, Webb averaged 6.7 points and 4.3 rebounds per contest while shooting 48 percent from the field.

"Bernard adds both size and strength to our roster," Toole said. "He is extremely effective with his back to the basket, and he's able to both rebound and block shots. He's more mature physically having played at the junior college level, which should allow him to acclimate himself very quickly to Division I basketball. I expect him to compete for minutes right away."

Robert Morris returns two starters and five letterwinners from a 2009-10 squad that posted an overall record of 23-12, including a mark of 15-3 in the Northeast Conference. The Colonials earned their third straight NEC regular-season championship in 2010, sharing the honor with Quinnipiac, and became the first program in the NEC to win back-to-back NEC Tournament titles since 1994.

RMU earned a 52-50 victory at Quinnipiac (3/10/10) in the 2010 NEC Tournament championship game, helping the Colonials earn their league-record seventh NEC Tournament title. In the 2010 NCAA Tournament, Robert Morris nearly upset No. 2 seed Villanova (3/18/10) as part of the South Regional at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I., before falling, 73-70, in overtime.
