Moon Township, Pa. - On Thursday evening at the banquet for the 2010 Northeast Conference Softball Championships, three members of the Robert Morris University softball team earned All-NEC honors.
Junior Annie Dubovec (Chagrin Falls, Ohio / Kenston) and senior Megan Picinic (Cliffside, NJ / Immaculate Heart) were named to the All-NEC First Team, while sophomore Jaci Timko (Houston, Pa. / Chartiers-Houston) earned All-NEC Second Team accolades.
Dubovec, who was named to the ESPN The Magazine District II Academic All-America Team, also picked up conference honors in 2008 when she was selected to the All-NEC Second Team. A pitcher and designated player, Dubovec leads the Colonials with a .358 batting average. She has tallied 49 hits, including eight doubles and five home runs.
A former four-year ice hockey standout, Picinic rejoined the RMU softball team for the 2010 season in her fifth year of eligibility. Selected as the utility player on the NEC First-Team, Picnic spent time at both first and second base while recording a .313 batting average. The senior has slugged six doubles and three homers while finishing second in the NEC with her .977 fielding percentage.
Second on the RMU squad with a .352 batting average, Timko leads the team with 51 hits and 37 runs as she earns the first All-NEC award of her career. She has belted three homers, nine doubles, one triple and has stolen six bases.
On Friday morning, the Colonials will face top seed and tournament host Long Island in Hackensack, N.J. The winner of the game will advance to play either Monmouth or Quinnipiac on Friday afternoon.
