Moon Township, Pa. - Robert Morris University is pleased to announce the first annual Celebrity-Alumni Hockey Game to benefit Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the Children’s Miracle Network. The event, which will take place Saturday, Sept. 13, at 7:00 p.m., is sponsored by WDVE and will be held at the Robert Morris Island Sports Center on Neville Island in Pittsburgh, Pa. The game will feature the Pittsburgh Celebrity Hockey Team as they face off against the Robert Morris men’s ice hockey alumni squad.
Just some of the celebrities scheduled to play include Pittsburgh sports writer Mike Prisuta, former NHL players Dave Hannan, Mike Gaffney, Francois Leroux, Mark Kachowski and Dave Hanson of the movie “Slapshot.” Pittsburgh media personalities Ross Guidotti (KDKA-TV) and Larry Richert (KDKA Radio) will take the ice while Allison Morris (KDKA-TV) will be the guest coach for the Celebrity Team. Also playing for the Celebrity Team will be Robert Morris’ head men’s hockey coach, Derek Schooley and his assistant coach, Chris Kostopoulos. Nate Handrahan and Scott Spencer of the Robert Morris women’s ice hockey program also will skate for the Celebrity Team.
Returning to the ice for Robert Morris will be Ryan Cruthers, last year’s CHA Player of the Year who now plays for the Houston Aeros of the AHL. Other alumni slated to play include Sean Berkstresser of the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL), Logan Bittle of the Colorado Eagles (CHL), Christian Boucher of the Rio Grande Killer Bees (CHL), Aaron Clarke of Wheeling Nailers (ECHL), Joey Olson of the Johnstown Chiefs (ECHL) and Joe Tuset, who is now a coach for the Colonials .
Iceburgh, the official mascot of the Pittsburgh Penguins, will be in attendance for the festivities along with RoMo, the official Robert Morris mascot. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased by calling or visiting the Island Sports Center. All proceeds of the event will benefit Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh, a member of the Children’s Miracle Network.
