Moon Township, Pa. – Recent graduate Jeff Witmyer (West Lawn, Pa. / Wilson) of the Robert Morris University men’s track and field team was named to the ESPN The Magazine Men’s Cross Country / Track and Field Academic All-District II First Team Thursday afternoon by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Witmyer, who earns his third straight All-District honor, now becomes eligible to have his named placed on the ballot for the national Academic All-America Team.
Witmyer graduated in May with a cumulative GPA of 3.72 and a master’s degree in information systems and assurance. During this past season the West Lawn, Pa. native captured the Northeast Conference and IC4A individual high jump crowns and picked up his second straight NEC Winter Scholar-Athlete ward for the sport of track and field. He concluded his career at the 2008 NCAA East Regional Championship, where he finished in a seven-way tie for tenth place in the high jump.
In order to be eligible for Academic All-District Team consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 on a 4.00 scale. The student-athlete must have reached sophomore eligibility and academic standing at the institution and must have completed one full academic year. CoSIDA's District II covers Delaware, the District of Columbia, Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania and West Virginia.
