Moon Township, Pa. -
Juniors Liran Braun (Herzelia, Israel) and
Tarun Kishan (Mississauga, Ontario / Saint Francis
Xavier Secondary) of the Robert Morris University men's tennis
team each earned championships as part of the rain-shortened Mount St. Mary's
Invitational this past weekend in Emmitsburg, Md.
Kishan advanced to the
championship match of the "C" singles flight and squared off senior teammate
Igor Neves (Ponta Pora, Brazil), earning a
6-4, 6-1 victory in a match that was completed back in Moon Township at the
conclusion of the invitational due to the inclement weather.
The same held true for Braun, who knocked off senior teammate
Aaron Haas (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Montour), 6-4,
6-1, in the championship of the "D" singles flight.
Kishan advanced to the championship of the "C" singles flight by posting a 6-1,
6-1 win over Eric Michaelis of Loyola (Md.) and a 6-2, 6-2 win over Taylor Place
of Mount St. Mary's, while Neves posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Ryan Fitzgerald of
Loyola (Md.) and a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Patrick McGinley of the Mount.
In the "D" singles flight, Braun began with a 6-0, 6-2 win over Justin Olexa of
Mount St. Mary's and followed that with a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Tom Hamm of
Loyola (Md.).
Haas, meanwhile, posted a straight set win over Adam Salam of the
Mount, 6-0 and 6-0, before dispatching Will Ives of Gettysburg, 6-3 and 6-2.
Also earning a pair of singles
victories at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational was junior
Jose Limon (Colonia San Jose, Mexico).
Limon opened the invite with a
6-1, 6-2 win over Patrick Glaessner of Loyola (Md.), followed by a straight set,
6-0, 6-0 victory over Mike Zabetakis of the Mount.
Limon was due to take
on Mike Salomon of Mount St. Mary's in the championship of the "B" singles
flight before inclement weather forced the cancellation of the rest of the
invitational.
Both Limon and Karun will
carry perfect 5-0 records in singles action into RMU's final two dual matches of
the 2011 fall season Saturday, Oct. 8.
The Colonials will take on Duquesne at
9:00 a.m. before facing host Carnegie Mellon at 12:30 p.m.
