RMU Student-Athlete of the Week (11/30/11)

Taking home his second consecutive RMU Male Student-Athlete of the Week honor is redshirt junior guard Velton Jones of the basketball team. A native of Philadelphia, Pa., Jones concluded play in the 2011 Philly Hoop Group Classic last week by averaging 19.5 points and 3.0 assists in four games as the Colonials finished 2-2. Jones contributed a team-high 14 points in 51-44 win over La Salle at the Palestra in his hometown and 10 points against Pittsburgh to extend his streak of double-figure scoring games dating back to last season to 12. On the 2011-12 campaign, Jones is averaging 17.8 points and 4.7 assists per game and leads the Northeast Conference in assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.80.
