MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – March 5, 2012 –The
Atlantic Hockey Association has honored Robert Morris men’s hockey senior
forward Trevor Lewis as this week’s AHA Travel Team USA Player of the Week
after the Colonial captain tallied an impressive eight points in RMU’s opening
round playoff series with American International.
Lewis (Lititz, Pa. / Syracuse Stars) notched seven
assists and a goal in the three-game series as Robert Morris advanced to the
AHA quarterfinals next weekend at Niagara. The forward recorded the eventual
game-winning goal in Friday’s 5-3 win over the Yellow Jackets and also put up
three assists as Robert Morris earned its first-ever home playoff win and the
program’s first-ever Atlantic Hockey playoff win. The senior captain would add
a pair of assists in Saturday’s Game 2 loss before duplicating the performance
in Sunday’s deciding contest – a 4-3 overtime win for the Colonials.
The eight-point weekend vaulted Lewis into a tie
with fellow senior Cody Crichton (Palgrave, Ontario / Brampton Capitals) for
the program points lead with 29 each. The forward also ranks second in the AHA
with 21 assists this season.
Lewis is one of the most accomplished players
in RMU program history, ranking fifth in career points (83), fifth in career
goals (30), fourth in career assists (53) and first in games played (141). The
senior captain has currently played in 121-straight games for the Colonials –
another program record.
This week’s honor marks Lewis’ first career AHA
accolade. The senior was twice honored as the CHA Rookie of the Week during the
2008-09 season. The honor is Robert Morris’ ninth weekly honor of the year. Lewis
is the sixth different Colonial to earn distinction from the league and the
first to earn AHA weekly honors since Crichton was named AHA Travel Team USA
Co-Player of the Week on Jan. 23.
