Moon Township, Pa. - The Robert Morris University women's rowing team was bestowed a weekly honor Tuesday, as it was tabbed the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) women's varsity four boat of the week.
Consisting of senior Chelsea Thornton (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Carrick), juniors Gretchen Gailey (Beaver, Pa. / Beaver Area) and Ashley Wright (Gibsonia, Pa. / Pine-Richland), sophomore Megan Coleman (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Northgate) and freshman Julie Miller (Pittsburgh, Pa. / North Catholic), the RMU varsity four earned silver at the Neuweiler Plate this past weekend in Lewisberry, Pa., with a time of 7:41.34.
RMU trailed only Penn State in the varsity four and earned second place after battling Mercyhurst for silver, defeating the Lakers by half a second, 7:41.34 to 7:41.87.
The Colonials advanced to the grand final of the varsity four after winning its heat with a time of 7:53.26.
Robert Morris continues its 2012 season Saturday, April 14, and Sunday, April 15, by taking part in the Knecht Cup in Cherry Hill, N.J.
