Matisz was selected as a midfielder on the All-American Third Team, marking the third consecutive season in which a Colonial has claimed All-American honors.

Matisz's selection marks just the second time since 1990 in which a Division I student-athlete from a current Northeast Conference (NEC) school has garnered First, Second or Third Team All-American honors.

Trevor Moore, RMU's all-time leading scorer and the national leader in goals per game in 2011, earned All-American awards in each of the past two seasons for the Colonials.

Matisz was named as both a semifinalist for the Tewaaraton Award, college lacrosse's national player of the year honor, as well as NEC Player of the Year in leading the Colonials to their first-ever league title in 2012. He had his best offensive season in a Colonial uniform in his final campaign with the squad as he has tallied a single-season school record 64 points in just 15 games on the strength of 40 goals and 24 assists. He currently sits sixth nationally, and first in the NEC, in points per game (4.27), 10th nationally in goals per game (2.67) and 29th across the country in assists per game (1.60). Matisz became just the fourth Colonial ever to score 40 goals in a season and also finished third in single-season assists at RMU. He converted on a career-high 45.5 percent of his shots, which helped him produce 13 consecutive multi-point games to finish the season. He tied RMU's single-game school record of five assists, which had only been achieved twice previously at Robert Morris, en route to a career-high eight points April 21. Matisz produced two of his best performances against a pair of squads that both reached the NCAA Quarterfinals this season. He netted six points (3g, 3a) against Denver before following that up by notching seven points (6g, 1a) against Colgate.

Matisz, who was also named NEC Offensive Player of the Year, took home his third consecutive first-team all-conference honor in 2012. He finished his career second in all-time points (166) at Robert Morris, fourth in career goals (94) and second in all-time assists (72). He also sits eighth in career ground balls (93) and possesses three of the top 10 highest single-season assist totals in school history. Matisz had 14 career hat tricks along with 41 multi-point games and 26 multi-goal games over his four years.

While Matisz has claimed multiple accolades for his on-field achievements, he boasts an impressive list of awards for his accomplishments away from the field as well. He was recently one of just five Division I men's lacrosse student-athletes nationally named Capital One Academic All-District First Team, an award which advances him onto to the Academic All-America ballot. The double major in economics and marketing compiled a 3.75 cumulative grade-point average at Robert Morris. He is the reigning NEC Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year honoree and was also selected as a national finalist for the Lowe's Senior CLASS Award.

With Matisz's help, Robert Morris is set to lead the nation in scoring offense for the third-consecutive season. The Colonials' goals per game average of 14.33 is far and away the best mark in Division I, more than one goal per game better than any other school. RMU's lead in the category over second-place Colgate is greater than the gap between second place and ninth place.

The Colonials are also on pace to lead the nation in assists per game for a third-consecutive year. RMU broke its single-season school record for assists in 2012 (147) and currently tops all Division I teams with 9.80 assists per game. Just like the goals category, Robert Morris' cushion over second-place UMass is greater than the gap between second place and ninth place in the national rankings.

The RMU men's lacrosse team registered a program-record 11 wins in 2012, including running through NEC play undefeated to claim the conference's regular-season title. The Colonials knocked off a pair of nationally-ranked squads during the campaign, including a 9-7 road victory at Ohio State, and are currently leading the nation in scoring offense at 14.33 goals per game.
