MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. - July 18, 2012 - Robert Morris Hockey Operations Coordinator Josh Brown has accepted a coaching position with USA Hockey's National Team Development Program (NTDP) in Ann Arbor, Mich. Brown is one of two new intern coaches named in today's release by USA Hockey along with Minnesota-Duluth's Trent Palm.
"I want to thank Josh for his year spent at Robert Morris. This is a great opportunity for Josh as this is a position that can lead to some very good things for him professionally," RMU Head Men's Hockey Coach Derek Schooley said. "He will be working alongside very good coaches and high-level players while having some really exciting experiences. Our staff and team are very happy for him."
Brown, who will serve as an intern coach with the NTDP's U.S. National Under-18 Team in 2012-13, served as volunteer assistant coach and hockey operations coordinator for the Colonial men's hockey program last year - his first at RMU. Prior to his time with the Colonials, Brown spent four years (2007-11) as an assistant coach at Northern Arizona University, while also serving as head of recruiting for the Ice Jacks.
Also a former player at Northern Arizona, Brown helped the program to three American Collegiate Hockey Association national tournament appearances (2006-09). He was a two-year captain for NAU (2005-07) and earned ACHA Division III First Team All-West accolades in 2006-07.
Prior to attending NAU, Brown helped the Detroit Lightning win the Continental Elite Hockey League championship in 2002-03 was named a CEHL All-Star while skating for the Traverse City Enforcers during the 2003-04 season. Brown also spent time with the Springfield Jr. Blues and the Soo Indians of the North American Hockey League.
A native of Ann Arbor, Mich., Brown graduated from Northern Arizona in 2008 with a bachelor's degree in business administration.
