Moon Township, Pa. – Former Robert Morris University men's basketball player Josiah Whitehead (2008-10) was recently named the 2013 Premier Basketball League Rookie of the Year in a vote of league and team executives and coaches.
Whitehead averaged 12.2 points and 4.6 rebounds in 2013 for the Bloomington Flex, helping the organization earn its second straight PBL Championship by sweeping a best-of-three series from the Rochester RazorSharks. Overall on the year Bloomington posted a record of
10-4 (.714), finishing in a three-way tie with Sauk Valley and Indiana.
A two-year letterwinner for the Colonials from 2008 to 2010, Whitehead averaged 4.1 points and 2.3 rebounds in 68 career games for Robert Morris, helping the program earn back-to-back Northeast Conference Tournament championships and automatic bids in the NCAA Tournament.
Over the final 14 games of his career at RMU, Whitehead averaged 6.4 points and 2.6 rebounds per contest while shooting 70.2 percent (33-for-47) from the field. In his final game at Robert Morris, Whitehead contributed eight points, four rebounds and a pair of steals in a 73-70 overtime setback to No. 2 seed Villanova at the Dunkin' Donuts Center in Providence, R.I.
