Robert Morris University men's basketball teamed was honored by the Northeast Conference Monday, as he was tabbed the
Choice Hotels NEC Player of the Week.
In addition to the honor from the NEC, Anderson was also selected as the
College Sports Madness Mid-Major Men's Basketball Player of the Week. Anderson was one of three student-athletes to earn a national weekly honor from College Sports Madness, as California guard Justin Cobbs was tabbed the National Player of the Week, while Saint Louis guard Jordair Jett was tabbed High-Major Player of the Week.
Anderson was bestowed the pair of honors after leading RMU to a 2-0 start in NEC play last week with road victories against Sacred Heart (1/9/14) and Bryant (1/11/14). In the two contests, Anderson averaged 34.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 64.3 percent (27-for-42) from the field, including 60 percent (12-for-20) from beyond the arc.
In a 79-70 win over the Pioneers at the William H. Pitt Center in Fairfield, Conn., to open the week, Anderson exploded for a career-high 36 points, converting 15 of his 19 shots from the field, including 6-of-7 from beyond the arc. He also five rebounds and three steals in the win.
Nursing a 72-70 victory with under two minutes to play at Sacred Heart, Anderson hit a jumper in the lane to give the Colonials a 74-70 edge, and his three-pointer from the top of the key with just 29 seconds remaining helped extend RMU's advantage to 77-70.
Anderson joined Wisconsin's Frank Kaminsky and Howard's Prince Okoroh as the only players in NCAA Division I this season to convert at least 15 field goals in a game with less than 20 attempts from the floor.
Two days later Anderson helped lead Robert Morris to a 71-67 victory over the Bulldogs at the Chace Athletic Center in Smithfield, R.I., with 32 points on 12-of-23 shooting from the floor, including 6-for-13 from deep, while converting his only two attempts at the free-throw line. He also added four rebounds and four assists in the win.
Anderson scored RMU's final nine points of the contest at Bryant, including a jumper with 38 seconds to play that helped snap a 67-67 tie.
On the 2013-14 season, Anderson ranks fourth in the NEC in scoring at 19.3 points per game while pacing the circuit in three-point field goals made per game (3.59) and three-point field goal percentage (.477).
Robert Morris (7-10, 2-0 NEC), which just concluded a stretch of 13 of 16 games on the road, returns to the Charles L. Sewall Center for its first home game in almost a month when it welcomes in-state rival Saint Francis U. Thursday, Jan. 16, for a 7:00 p.m. tip.
