Jaycee Gebhard and redshirt junior forward
Brittany Howard of the No. 9
Robert Morris University women's hockey team were named College Hockey America (CHA) Rookie of the Month and Player of the Month, respectively, for February, announced the league Wednesday afternoon.
Gebhard has been named CHA Rookie of the Month for the last five consecutive months.
The rookie forward out of Plenty, Saskatchewan, tabbed a point in all six games in February, and extended her current point streak to a career-high-tying seven games. Gebhard registered multiple points in three out of six outings last month.
Gebhard matched her career-high three points with two goals and one assist in a 4-1 win versus RIT. She followed up with a goal and an assist to sweep the season series with the Tigers. Last weekend, Gebhard scored both of RMU's goals in a 2-1 win that guaranteed the Colonials a share of the 2016-17 CHA Regular-Season Championship. She added an assist against the Lions in a 3-0 shutout victory the following day to secure the title outright.
The Colonials rookie averaged 1.67 points per game last month. She leads the nation in points per game among rookies (1.38) and power-play goals (nine).
For the third time this season, Howard has been named CHA Player of the Month. Howard racked up nine points in six games played in February, averaging 1.5 points per game. She posted a season-high and career-high-tying four points to open the month in a 4-1 victory over RIT. She tabbed another multi-point effort with a goal and an assist in a 5-2 win to complete the sweep of the Tigers. Howard dished an assist in both games against Penn State, and in the regular-season title-clinching win at Lindenwood.
Howard is five points away from becoming the all-time points leader at Robert Morris.
Robert Morris embarks on its journey to a conference championship title on Friday, March 3 in the 2017 CHA Tournament semifinals at 4 p.m. in the HARBORCENTER in Buffalo, N.Y. The Colonials will face the lowest remaining seed following the quarterfinals, which begin Thursday, March 2.
