MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – RMU played with an unmatched energy all four quarters but fell short against Green Bay, 60-50. With the loss, RMU drops to 6-18 overall and 2-14 in Horizon League play while Green Bay moves to 20-5 on the season and 13-2 in conference action.
1st HALF
The Colonials offense was clicking from beyond the arc to start the game as the home team was 3-3 from three-point range in the first four minutes of the game.
Louella Allana,
Danielle Vuletich, and
Rebecca Dwomoh all made their shots from downtown to give RMU the early 9-8 lead. Both offenses sputtered in the second as Green Bay was just 2-15 from the field in the second frame. The Colonials were continuously aggressive on the defensive side forcing bad shots and causing turnovers from the visiting squad. Going into halftime, RMU was within striking distance as they were down 23-17 heading into the break.
2ND HALF
RMU came out of halftime on fire as they outscored the Phoenix 20-15 in the third quarter shooting 7-10 from the field. The Colonials were a perfect 4-4 from beyond the arc in the third frame with
Madison O'Dell nailing two triples in the quarter. RMU was the team that continued to battle throughout the third as they ended the quarter down by just one point with the score 38-37 going to the final frame. The home team started the fourth by taking the lead for the first time since the first quarter, but immediately after Green Bay went on a 6-0 run to make the score 45-39 halfway into the final quarter. The mix of foul trouble for RMU and free throw success from Green Bay made it tough for the Colonials to stage a comeback. The Phoenix went 12-14 from the charity stripe in the fourth as RMU hit the bonus with over three minutes left in regulation.
QUOTABLES
Colonials Acting Head Coach
Scott Schneider started out his postgame comments with, "The first thing is I'm really really proud of this group. The fight the resolve everything they've been through this season it was amazing to see what they did today and see that kind of intensity." Schneider added about the three-point success, "We practiced them not passing up open shots. We talked with them about when they get the opportunity to shoot and play free." Schneider closed his statement by saying, "The postgame talk was about us, it's going to continue to be about us. The biggest message for them was to be a team and to be a true genuine team which means you know, being authentic with each other, being vulnerable, and you know leaving it all on the line for each other."
