MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – The RMU women's basketball closes their regular season schedule with a trip to face Wright State on Saturday afternoon.
Tipoff is scheduled for 2 p.m. and can be seen streaming live on ESPN+.
RMU LATELY
The Colonials are coming off one of their most dominant games of the season as they defeated Youngstown State, 76-53 on Wednesday night.
Noa Givon had her best collective game of the season as she totaled a team-high 20 points and 10 rebounds which was her first double-double of the season.
Katelyn Chomko came off the bench and exploded for 15 points as she was 5-9 from beyond the arc. The Colonials have mutiple Horizon League seeding scenarios ahead of Saturday's matchup including that RMU would be guaranteed the fouth seed outright if they defeat Wright State. If the Colonials lose and Detroit Mercy loses, RMU will still hold the fourth seed. However, if RMU falls on Saturday with a Detroit Mercy win than the Colonials would become the fifth seed. The Colonials currently rank third in the Horizon League in team defensive rebounds with RMU posting an average of 25.7 defensive boards in 28 games played.
RMU AND WRIGHT STATE HISTORY
The Colonials have had a good amount of success against Wright State in program history, owning a 8-6 record in the series. The comparison in the series comes in the home and away splits as the Colonials have a 5-2 record at home and a 2-4 mark on the road against the Raiders.
RMU AND WRIGHT STATE LAST TIME OUT
A month ago, these two squads faced off at the UPMC Events Center and the Colonials upended the Raiders, 74-53. RMU had three players in double digits scoring led by
Mya Murray who had 16 points along with six rebounds.
Katelyn Chomko came off the bench and scored 12 points as she was 4-5 from 3PM.
Isys Grady rounded out that group with 11 points with four rebounds. The difference maker came in the third quarter when the Colonials outscored the Raiders 23-11 in that frame.
ONE STEP CLOSER
With a win over Youngstown State on Wednesday, RMU has now clinched as high as a fifth seed for the upcoming Horizon League Championships. The Colonials will have an opportunity on Saturday to clinch the fourth seed along with a double bye home game next Thursday if they defeat Wright State to close their regular season. The RMU women's basketball team has never played a home postseason game in the Horizon League Tournament in the five years since joining the conference.
UP NEXT
The Colonials will play in the quarterfinal round of the Barbasol Horizon League Championships next Thursday as they'll wait and see if they'll play at home as the fourth seed or on the road as the fifth seed.
