RMU Faces Mastodons Saturday At Southpointe

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Robert Morris University men's soccer team returns home this Saturday for a showdown with the visiting Purdue Fort Wayne Mastodons at SouthPointe Fieldhouse.

CATCHING UP

The Colonials are coming off of their first result of the 2021 Horizon League campaign, a 0-0 draw against the Green Bay Phoenix last Monday in Loves Park, Ill. 

Mike Zolnierczyk kept his first clean sheet of the season in the draw as the Colonials secured their first point in the HL standings.  RMU finished with three total shots on goal.

  • The Colonials are coming off of a 0-0 draw with Green Bay on the road last week. 
  • Fifteen Colonials saw game action against GB. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Zolnierczyk picked up his first clean sheet in goal, turning aside two shots on target. 
  • Junior defender Gustaf Moberg and senior mid Lorenzo Guagneli each led RMU with three total shots.  
  • RMU has taken six corners through three games in 2021, conceding 19.  
  • Midfielder Guagneli is the lone senior on a roster that features nine freshmen, seven sophomores, and ten juniors. 
  • Head Coach Jason O'Keefe takes over in his first year at the helm of Robert Morris in 2021. O'Keefe spent the last four years as head coach at Appalachian State, the last two of which he led the Mountaineers to back-to-back winning seasons, including a mark of 11-7-1 (.605) in 2019.
  • The Colonials will play their 2021 home schedule away from campus in 2021, hosting games at the indoor facilities of the SouthPointe Fieldhouse.
  • Amongst their new Horizon League foes, the Colonials have never faced Milwaukee, Fort Wayne or IUPUI.  RMU is 6-12 all-time against Cleveland State, 0-2 against Oakland, 0-0-1 against UIC, 0-1-1 against Detroit Mercy, 3-3 against Wright State, 0-1 against Northern Kentucky, and 0-1-1 against Green Bay.  Robert Morris squared off against both Oakland and CSU last season, however they have not faced UIC in over 20 years, last meeting the Flames during the 1996 campaign.

SCOUTING THE MASTODONS

Purdue Fort Wayne sits at 2-2 on the season and is coming off of a 2-0 victory against Green Bay last Sunday at home. 

Picked to finish tenth overall in the 2021 Preseason Poll, the Mastodons are riding a two-game win streak following wins over the Phoenix and IUPUI and have scored at least two goals in three of their four games this season. 

Junior mid Logan Lee leads them in both goals with three and total scoring with seven points.
